Possessions

We are in the middle of packing our apartment up to move in two weeks. We are only moving 45 minutes away, but we have a lot of work to do. When we leave our apartment, a couple from upstairs will move in here. It is a nice place. I am glad we chose this place last year.

We have so much stuff. We have pared down several times, but end up accumulating more things. It is just the way it is. RT has his own pile of things, too. In contacting movers, we have to remember that we have a crib and a changing table and a rocker and totes of baby things. Packing RT's things remind me that it doesn't take long and we are all gaining more stuff!

We threw out a bunch and donated another bunch of stuff. There is still so much more. I've packed stacks of DVDs and books. I have three or four boxes of cookbooks, and that is only about a third of what I had 6 or 7 years ago! I have both of my grandparents china sets and they take up space. Roger packed a few boxes of CDs. We haven't even started on our barware...we have a bunch of that, too! It is nice to be surrounded by our things, but not so nice to pack it all up to move. By the time we are unpacked in West Fargo, we'll have gotten rid of lots more crap. And then we buy more!

We are getting some furniture from my parents: not a lot, but some. We have plans to purchase a few things, and RT will continue to receive gifts. It is good to have things, possessions, don't get me wrong. I love having my own things and family heirlooms and things I just love. I just don't want so much stuff!

I hear ya. Throughout my many moves over the last 13 years, I have learned to keep what I need and what is most important to me, and release the rest. Goodwill, The Salvation Army and friends have gotten so much from me! Since I live in such a small place now I have gotten very good at being able to let go of things that I don't really need. Hopefully the day will come (soon!) when I get to pack it all up again and clear out some more!

Whoa. I didn't realize that my Google account was still logged as both of us. Guess it's time to go change that... :)
