Practice Run!

Yesterday, Roger and I enjoyed a practice run. Enjoyed is the wrong word, but we did practice.

I woke up feeling not so great yesterday. I had a headache and just didn't feel well. I'd had mild contractions all night. I figured they were Braxton Hicks (which I HATE by the way). By lunchtime, I felt worse, the contractions were happening closer together and I started to worry. I called the Birth Center and my doctor said to try to put my feel up on a pillow, drink lots of water, rest and possibly nap. I did all those things. The contractions came even closer together and I started to really worry. I called the Birth Center again. Yep, she said to come in. I worked from home and while I waited for Roger to pick me up, I finished packing my overnight bag, as well as some things for Roger.

We headed to Fargo. That hour seemed to take a long time. I was uncomfortable and worried. I cried a little. I am only 35 weeks pregnant and I didn't want the baby to come too early. Roger and I listened to the radio for some distraction.

We got to the Birth Center and were put in a labor and delivery room. It was pretty big and fairly nice. I had to put on the lovely hospital gown and this stretchy band for around my abdomen. I was put on a baby monitor. That baby was active! I had a few other tests done, then we waited an hour to repeat the tests and check the monitor. I was not in active labor. I got dressed, Roger and I had dinner at the Ground Round, I went home and took some Benadryl...and went to bed.

Sometime in the middle of the night, the contractions lessened. Except for feeling tired, I feel pretty good today. I still have contractions, but they are not painful and they are not too often. I'm a bit stressed about it all.

So, I'm taking the time today to make the plans with my bosses and colleagues. I'll be working from home except for when I'm teaching as much as possible. It is important that I get lots of rest.

So, we've had our practice run. We know what to look for next time (I hope). Let's hope next time is at least 2 weeks away!!

I feel your pain, mama! I had contractions at least every 6 minutes for the last MONTH I was pregnant. Several days I thought, oh, this is it. But nope, I ended up getting induced at 39w1d (high BP). Looking forward to seeing pics of Baby Skophammer, and so excited for you and Roger and your family. :-) Cheers!
