Girls Write Now and The President of the United States

Roger and I attended the Friends of Women's Studies Annual Dinner. The food was quite good and the program was exceptional. Maya Nussbaum, in a fit of writer's block, began a mentoring program for young girls from the 5 Boroughs of New York City. She matched girls with professional writers from around the city in a mentoring program. These girls have gone on to college, which prior to Girls Write Now was not likely to happen. Two mentors and one mentee read some works, which were terrific. As Roger said, their poetry was so real...no pretense what-so-ever. The program was good. We had a fun time. I don't even regret missing class for it.

We are now settling in to watch President Obama address pretty much everyone in Washington. It is exciting that he is our president. I am still so excited to see him and his name behind the title of President of the United States. Time to watch.
