Why is it I feel that a $1 grapefruit, which lasts 2 days, is expensive, yet, I have no problems spending $2 on a cup of coffee that lasts 1 hour (with a little bit of a caffeine kick for a couple more hours)???

It's all relative to how you perceive items. If you bought a grapefruit everyday and it started at 50 cents a piece and went up to 55 then 60 and so on when it got to a dollar it wouldn't seem so expensive.
