Indulgence

Yesterday, Roger and I set out for a drive to the Outer Banks, after a delicious breakfast at the Donut Dinette. $40 in gas, ugh! We stopped at the Grandy Market on our way to get some fresh produce and some Tomato Vidalia Salad Dressing. We drove on to the house the Skophammer family will reside in for a week in August. We braved the biting wind for a peek at the beach near the house. We stopped in some tourist shops. Roger found the larger wave board he had been looking for. We got some ice cream in the afternoon. We drove south to Nags Head for a little outlet mall shopping. I got an outfit at Eddie Bauer, Roger found the prep bowls he had been wanting for the kitchen. And, of course, I found some beach gear for Cassie when she visits in July. We then had dinner at the best restaurant I've eaten at on the Outer Banks, The Flying Fish. Our appetizer of clams and mussels in GARLIC and wine sauce was divine. I had a soup of chipotle, roasted sweet potatoes and corn pureed into a bisque. We both had rare tuna for dinner, mine was sushi style with a seaweed salad, Roger's was blackened with a roumelade sauce. Delicious. And if that weren't enough, cheesecake and coffee for me, creme brulee and espresso for Roger. Our drive back was nice. We talked the whole way. It is funny, but Roger and I have driven across the country together several times, and we still rarely listen to any music in the car. I guess our company is still enough.

So, we felt slightly guilty for paying for the gas and using the car (bad for the environment), but decided in the end, we deserved a day of indulgence.
